Pearl's Pets

The Pet Commission Process

Pets are family! I am a big lover of pets of all shapes and sizes, as they have been a part of my life for many years - until allergies set in.  Now, I create one-of-a-kind, hand painted, oil paintings of pets.  I strive to capture your pet’s likeness and spirit with each portrait.

How do we begin?

Let's have a chat, via Zoom/FaceTime, on what you are looking for and I collect lots of information about your pet(s). You share photos and together we choose the best one(s).  We also talk about canvas sizes, pricing, deadlines, and framing.  This is a great time to ask me questions, so please fill out the form below.  A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to cover the materials and work.

If you want to have a commission piece done for Christmas (as a special birthday gift, Mother's Day, etc.), you will need to contact me in by end of July, or at least five months in advance.  Why?  The portrait will need to dry prior to being varnished and framed.  You can get the portrait unvarnished but will need to return it to the studio for varnishing.

What is the price of a commissioned painting?

The price of a commission is about 25% higher than other paintings of the same size and is dependent on the number of pets in the painting. This accommodates the additional communication, the contract and the reprioritization of my personal work. Ultimately, the price depends on the size you need.

Do I do memorial pet portraits?

Yes!  I love to add something special to the memorial portrait.  Sometimes it is their special area or toy - you get to choose.

What happens next?

Expect there to be a delay depending on how long the commission wait list is, but you will be notified as soon as work begins.  As the portrait can take three to four weeks to complete and I provide weekly updates on my progress. You will get to provide feedback, if you so choose. When it is completed to you satisfaction, you sign off on the work, and pay the remaining 50%.
